February 29 and Astrology: what changes in a leap yearMarcia Fervienza

This year is a leap year, which means that we will have one more day in the month of February, and one more day during the season of Peixes. But what is the relationship between February 29th and Astrology?

The leap year arose from the need to keep track of time and the seasons of the year correctly. Our planet takes approximately 365 days to make one complete lap around the Sun… Approximately!

Yes, because the exact calculation is that the Earth takes 365 days, five hours and 48 minutes. In other words, 365 days and almost six hours.

As our days last 24 hours, we have to account for that extra third of a day that the Earth takes in its translational movement at some point.

If we didn’t, every four years we would be one day “behind” the start of the seasons, for example, and these days would only accumulate.

So, over the course of 100 years, we would be 75 days behind, with summer in the southern hemisphere starting in October. This would impact the times of year for planting and harvesting, animal migration times, religious rituals, among other things.

What changes the Day 29 of February in Astrology

This difference in the calendar would also make the using Astrology as a resource for self-knowledge would be much more difficult.

This is because, without February 29 every four years, establishing patterns between personality traits and behaviors by associating them with the movements of the heavenly bodies would be much more difficult.

Leap years can be more challenging

Generally speaking, leap years can be challenging for anyone, because they increase demands on detachment, compassion and relinquishing control.

It makes it difficult to “accept that we are only part of a much larger whole and to let ourselves be guided by the feelings and perceptions we instinctively have of our surroundings.

The day 29 of February brings this additional Piscean energy to everyone. That’s why it can be a great day to go on a romantic date, by the light of candles, with good food and drink, in a good restaurant.

Which sign is born on February 29?

Everyone born on February 29 is a Pisces. This is because the Sun enters Pisces between February 18 and 22 every year. And the Sun only changes to Aries around March 19 to 21.

So, although the start and end date for each sign may vary by a few days each year, whoever is born on February 29 there is no doubt: they will always be a Pisces.

Which decanate is a Pisces?

People of the same sign are also different because of the decanate in which they were born.

For example, a person born on February 8 can be very different from someone born on February 12, even if they are both Aquarius. This is due to the decanates of the signs.

However, the last 10 (approximate) days of February correspond to those born in the first decanate of Pisces.

Yes, the leap year slightly alters how many days will correspond to those born under the sign of Pisces, but this makes no difference because February 29 always falls in the first decanate.

That is, it doesn’t fall at a change of sign. If the additional day were counted, for example, at the turn of Pisces to Aries (mid-March), it would be much more problematic.

But the way it is currently done, anyone born on February 29 will always be a Pisces of the first decanate. In other words, their ruler is Neptune and that’s why Pisces people in this decanate are very sensitive and spiritual.

Whoever is born on February 29 only has a birthday every four years?

No! When we calculate a Natal Birth Chart, we want to know what degree and minute each planet was in the sky at the time the person was born.

So, when we prepare a Solar Revolution (or the Annual Chart), we astrologers calculate the chart for the moment when the Sun will arrive (in the sky) at the same degree and minute as when the person was born.

When the Sun reaches that point, we “take a picture” of the sky to read the trends for that year.

That’s why, when we do the Solar Revolution, we see that every year we have a birthday at a different time – sometimes even a day before or after our date of birth. This is due to solar movement.

And every year the Sun will reach this point, whether or not it’s a leap year. So those born in a leap year have a birthday every year and therefore have no reason not to make their Solar Revolution every year.

How does being born in a leap year affect our personality?

Astrological literature says that although the Pisceans are intuitive, those born on February 29 have intuitive ability far above average, so strong that it would seem to attribute to them almost a mind-reading ability.

Experience also shows that those born on February 29 have a high level of emotional intelligence, which grows even stronger throughout their lives.

The only downside would be that these people tend to take on the burdens and problems of others more often, as they have a very charitable and intuitive spirit.
