Vasco officially announces the renewal of left-back Lucas Piton

Vasco announce Lucas Piton’s contract extensionLeandro Amorim/Vasco

Confirmed! Vasco officially announced Lucas Piton’s contract renewal on Thursday (29). The club had previously published the extension in the CBF’s Daily Informative Bulletin (BID). A situation that the fans noticed and publicized even before the club did. The left-back’s new contract with the Cruz-Maltino runs until December 2028.

This move by the Gigante da Colina aims to protect itself from European harassment. This is because since last season, Piton has been receiving enquiries from several clubs on the Old Continent, one of them being Genoa, from Italy. It’s important to note that Rossoblu is also managed by 777 Partners.

This interest from European clubs is explained by the prominence that the left-back has shown since last season and continues in the current one. Specifically at Vasco, he was the leader in assists in 2023, with seven passes for goals. After all, Piton has become a specialist in crosses. So much so that, overall, he was the player with the second most crosses in Serie A, with 68. Behind only Raphael Veiga, according to ‘Sofascore’.

Another factor that appeals to Europeans is his dual Brazilian and Italian nationality. In fact, he was on the Azzurri’s shortlist in May last year. However, he has already stated that his priority is to play for the Brazilian national team. In addition to his Italian passport, which allows clubs not to fill a foreigner’s place in the squad, his youth is another plus. That’s because the left-back recently turned just 23 years old.

Piton stands out for his frequency at Vasco

Piton’s other strength at Cruz-Maltino is his high level of participation. Last season, he played in 49 of the 53 games. He was the second most used player in the squad. Only Gabriel Pec was ahead of him.

Specifically in the last edition of the Brazilian Championship, he was on the pitch in 37 of the 38 possible matches. The only time he was absent was due to suspension for a third yellow card.

The left-back was the second most active player in the squad in the tournament. Above him only goalkeeper Léo Jardim, who played in every match. The script continues in 2024. After all, he played in nine of the 11 official matches this season.
