Maycon has decided to turn down Flamengo’s offer and will remain at Corinthians until 2024. On loan from Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk, he received an offer to sign a four-year contract with the Rubro-Negro. Even so, he decided to decline the invitation and remain at the Parque São Jorge club. The player’s decision to remain at Timão was based on three factors.
The first is the fight for first-team football. After all, the player is having a good time at Corinthians and has two goals and two assists so far this season. Maycon believes he can have a great year in the Corinthians shirt. At Flamengo, the midfielder would be fighting for space and would hardly be a starter in a midfield that has already been consolidated by coach Tite.
In addition, Maycon has heard a promise from the Corinthians board to settle a million-dollar debt owed to him by the club. There are 11 months of overdue image rights, something that could be used by the player to obtain a release from his contract to look for another team. The player has great affection for Timão and preferred to find an amicable agreement to receive what he owes.
Finally, the midfielder heard a plea from his family not to move to another city at the moment. Completely adapted to São Paulo, the player complied with a request from his wife and children. This wish was a key factor in his staying at Corinthians.
Maycon’s second spell at Corinthians
A Corinthians native, Maycon has been on loan at the club since 2022. After a period of injuries and a lack of offers at the end of that year, his loan was renewed for another season. Timão paid 500,000 euros, approximately R$2.8 million at the time. In 2023, he made 57 appearances and scored three goals. This season, he has two goals and two assists in 11 games.
