With the arrival of a cold front in the Southeast, the states of Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais should prepare for heavy rain throughout this Thursday (7). The cold front, which has already caused impacts in São Paulo, is now moving through the region, bringing with it the possibility of thunderstorms and significant accumulations of precipitation.
According to information from Climatempo, although the cold front has moved away towards the sea, the winds coming from the ocean are still capable of generating climatic instability. The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued a “danger” weather warning for the entire length of the state of Rio de Janeiro, southern Minas Gerais and southern Espírito Santo, warning of heavy rain and winds of up to 100 km/h.
According to the National Center for Monitoring and Alerts of Natural Disasters (Cemaden), these areas are at moderate risk for landslides, with São Paulo also on alert. Maria Clara Sassaki, spokesperson for Climatempo, points out that although São Paulo may record less voluminous rainfall, the already soggy ground increases the risk of landslides.
Meanwhile, in the south of the country, after days of instability due to the cold front, an area of low pressure in Paraguay brings with it the return of the rains, especially in western Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. Temperatures, which had dropped with the passage of the cold front, should start to rise again this Thursday.
In the north, in addition to the rains caused by the cold front, the concern continues due to the significant accumulations of precipitation. In Acre, where the rains have been recurrent, the level of the Acre River has surpassed historic marks, generating concern about flooding in the Vale do Acre region, especially in Rio Branco.
In view of this scenario, the authorities recommend caution and preventive measures to minimize the impacts of these climatic events.
