With dreams of winning the league title, Barcelona host Mallorca this Friday (8) at 5pm (Brasília) at the Estadio Olímpico Lluís Companys, in the opening match of the 28th round of La Liga. The Culés will be looking to take advantage of home advantage to move closer to leaders and rivals Real Madrid.
How Barcelona arrive
Barça arrive in good form despite a goalless draw away to Athletic Bilbao last time out. At the same time, Xavi’s side are unbeaten in seven matches, with four wins in that period.
The Culés are in third place in La Liga with 58 points, one less than leaders Real Madrid and just one behind Girona, in second place.
Barcelona also still have some injury problems in their squad. Gavi, Marcos Alonso, Balde, Ferran Torres, Pedri and De Jong are in the club’s medical department and will miss Friday’s game.
How Mallorca arrive
Mallorca are 15th in the domestic competition with 27 points, eight more than Cádiz, the first team in the relegation zone. At the same time, the club is betting on winning the Copa del Rey, where they will face Athletic Bilbao in the final.
Mallorca are coming off the back of a surprising 1-0 win over LaLiga sensations Girona, the second-placed team in the competition last time out, and will be looking to snatch points from Barcelona.
The team’s only absentee is Pablo Maffeo, who is injured.
