Jair Ventura is living a love affair with Atlético-GO fans. Unlike in his last few jobs, when he was questioned, the coach has found everyone’s respect and is now close to breaking a record at Dragão. The team faces Goiatuba on Monday 11th in the quarter-finals of the Goiano Championship.
In the event of a win, Atlético-GO will record 11 consecutive wins for the first time in their history. Jair’s and the squad’s current record equals that of the 1972 and 2008 teams.
To reach these ten wins so far, the two-time Goiás champions have made the most of matches in the state championship itself and also in the Copa do Brasil, like last Wednesday, when they qualified for the third round of the national competition over Real Brasília.
“The squad is very good and looks at every game as if it were a final. It’s an important milestone for all of us who are working day to day, but we’re still very focused on achieving our goals,” said Jair, who joined the club in July 2023.

Since the start of the season, 14 matches have been played, with 11 wins (ten in a row), one draw and two defeats. They have scored 34 goals and conceded nine. The expectation is that the team will stay in the Serie A of the Brazilian Championship, since they secured their place with their own coach – Vitória, Juventude and Criciúma occupied the top three positions and also went up.
Son of Jairzinho, a three-time world champion with the Brazilian national team in 1970, Jair, 44, began his coaching career at Botafogo, then as an assistant coach. He later took over as head coach and has worked for Santos, Corinthians, Sport, Chapecoense, Juventude, Goiás and now Atlético-GO.
