The extensive negotiations involving the transfer of Thiago Maia from Flamengo to Internacional officially ended on Thursday (7), the last day of the transfer window. The issue between Flamengo and Lille, the French club that owned half of the player’s economic rights, was finally resolved. As a result, it was possible to complete the transfer to Internacional.
Initially, the midfielder will be loaned out, due to the urgency of finalizing the deal on the last day of the window. However, Internacional will have a contractual obligation to buy him at a later date. Flamengo will receive a sum of 2.85 million euros (equivalent to R$15.4 million) and will retain 25% of the economic rights. Lille will receive 1.15 million euros (around R$6.2 million) and will keep the red-blacks’ percentage. The information was first reported by journalist Venê Casagrande.
Flamengo hastened the end of the negotiation
Although there was a possibility that Thiago Maia’s negotiation would take place from April 1 to 19, as provided for by the National Regulations for the Registration and Transfer of Football Athletes (RNRTAF), the decision was to finalize the deal in this window for two reasons. Primarily because Internacional will have time to adapt the new player for the rest of the season. In addition, Flamengo will no longer bear the cost of the midfielder’s salary.
On Thursday, Thiago shared a farewell message on social media, along with a photo of him winning the 2022 Libertadores: “Whoever saw it, saw it.”
Thiago Maia arrived at Flamego in 2020. In all, he played 170 games, scored five goals and won eight titles, including a Brasileiro, a Libertadores and a Copa do Brasil. Finally, he lost his place last year and trained separately from the squad in 2024.
