Two Brazilians were victims of aggression last Friday (12) in Limerick, Ireland, in separate cases that were filmed and published on Tiktok, causing outrage. The attacks, considered by authorities to be motivated by xenophobia, are being investigated by local police.
The Brazilians who were attacked were identified as Frederico de Lima Costa, 34, and Mateus Gonzalez Serafim, 21.
Both were on their way home from work when they were attacked by a group of three men in different locations but close to each other, at a distance of about 100 meters.
Frederico, born in Minas Gerais and residing in Ireland since June 2023, worked as an assistant in a restaurant. He tried to flee, but was caught by the attackers, who only stopped after the intervention of another Brazilian who works as a security guard at a bar near the scene of the attack.
In turn, Mateus, an employee of a mattress store, was punched in the chin by one of the attackers, managing to escape the scene.
The attacks were filmed and published on a TikTok profile specializing in showing traffic violations, reaching more than 20 thousand views until the removal of the publication by the platform.
In addition to these two cases, on Saturday (13), a third Brazilian, identified as Roberto Gomes dos Santos Júnior, 33, was assaulted while leaving work with his brother.
The aggressor questioned the nationality of the Brazilians and, upon receiving the answer, hit Roberto on the head with an object.
Local authorities have opened an investigation to identify and hold the perpetrators accountable. The Brazilian embassy in Ireland is closely following the case to ensure the necessary support for the victims.
