Influencer and former candidate for Miss Ecuador in 2022 Landy Párraga Goyburo dies at the age of 23. The young woman was shot dead last Sunday (28), in a restaurant located in the shopping mall of the Ecuadorian city of Quevedo.
The moment of Landy’s death was recorded by security cameras. She was talking to her boyfriend when a man wearing a mask entered the place and shot the influencer. Another young man who was at the door of the restaurant also fired shots at the model.
After being hit, Landy falls to the ground. Both gunmen approach the former candidate’s body and fire new shots. The influencer succumbed to her injuries and died at the scene. Landy’s boyfriend at the restaurant, surgeon Jose Luis Betancourt, survived the attack without injury.
The influencer had more than 160,000 followers on Instagram and, minutes earlier, had posted a photo of what she was eating at the restaurant. She was a candidate for Miss Ecuador in 2022, being the representative of the province of Los Ríos. Landy placed fifth in the competition.
According to La Nación, the young woman even competed in several beauty contests around the country.
Investigation
The Ecuadorian police are collecting the information and evidence about the murder of the influencer. The country’s Public Prosecutor’s Office is also investigating to find out who was responsible for the death.
Landy, however, has already had his name mentioned in an investigation into the structure of organized crime in December 2023. Known as the Metastases case, the operation has already left several people detained. Drug trafficker Leandro Norero — who was found dead in prison in 2022 — told accountant Helive Angulo that Landy was involved in a money laundering scheme. The conversation was obtained by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
At the time, Leandro asked that the influencer not be linked to him, stating: “If my wife finds out anything about her [Landy], I’m screwed. My friend, her name can’t come out anywhere. Otherwise, my world will come crashing down,” according to the Daily Mail.
Despite being cited, Landy was never denounced by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and never commented publicly on the case.
