With the slight reduction in the level of the Guaíba River, the subject, pollution and even animals began to appear on the streets of Porto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. The state is facing a collapse after heavy rains since April 29, with 431 of the 496 municipalities affected by flooding.
In the Praia de Belas neighborhood, live fish were found swimming freely. Near this location, an alligator was sighted on Tuesday (7), in the Menino Deus neighborhood.
Also, in the historic center of Porto Alegre, on Uruguay Street, five dead fish were found floating near the sidewalk.
The flooding in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul also affected the level of the Dilúvio stream, a watercourse that divides Porto Alegre, coming from the far east and flowing into the Guaíba. The water is still very high, but it is already possible to see part of the riverside vegetation dirty by the flood.
After
reaching 5.33 meters on May 5, the level of the Guaíba decreased, reaching 4.86 meters at 6:15 pm on Thursday (9). This Friday (10), it reaches 4.74 m.
The city of Porto Alegre was heavily flooded due to the flooding of the Guaíba River. Until this Thursday (9), the airport and the bus station remain out of operation due to the floods. Homes and businesses are also flooded.
According to a projection by the Hospital Research Index (IPH), the Guaíba should take at least 30 days to fall below 3 meters. In the historic flood of 1941, when the river reached 4.76 m, it took 32 days for the river to return to normal conditions.
Rio Grande do Sul
The storms that have hit the state of Rio Grande do Sul since Monday (29) have caused 107 deaths, according to the Civil Defense bulletin released on Thursday. The agency also informs that there is one death under investigation.
The number of injured is 754. The number of missing is 136.
The state’s Civil Defense counts more than 327,100 displaced people, in addition to about 68,500 people in shelters. In all, 425 of the state’s 496 municipalities registered some type of problem, affecting 1,742,969 people.
