Activist Greta Thunberg was arrested for participating in a pro-Palestinian rally in front of the Malmö Arena in the capital of Sweden, where the Eurovision song contest was held. She and other protesters were detained on Saturday night. The information comes from the Europress Agency.
Greta and the other demonstrators held a demonstration to try to prevent Israel’s participation in the festival. “Shame” was one of the most spoken words by the participants.
The demonstration was called by the platform “Stop Israel, for peace and for free Palestine”, which brings together more than 60 organizations. Already last Thursday (9), thousands of people had marched through the streets of Malmö to demand Israel’s expulsion from the contest.
“We will not accept that a country that is currently committing genocide participates in an important contest like this. The world cannot remain silent in a genocide. Everyone who can should use their voice and speak out against Israel’s crimes and occupation,” Greta said in a post last week.
The
new conflict between Israel and Hamas began on October 7 last year, with the invasion of the terrorist group on Israeli land – the massacre killed about 1,200 people.
Since then, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has carried out a series of attacks on the Gaza Strip and has managed to control several areas that belong to the Palestinians.
In addition to leaving more than 30,000 Palestinians dead, most of them women and children, the Israeli army also destroyed homes. The attacks have also caused thousands of people to leave Gaza.
