One of the great names in world tennis, former player Andy Roddick used his personal podcast to reveal that he has faced several types of cancer since he left the courts. The American also took the opportunity to make a warning, especially to people who have children practicing tennis.

“I have suffered from several types of skin cancer since I stopped playing. I had a squamous cell tumor removed from my lips five or six years ago. Wear sunscreen. And put sunscreen on your kids, especially on the tennis court. Problems don’t show up at age eight, but maybe at age 38,” Roddick said.

The 41-year-old also revealed that he is currently undergoing a laser facial, and that he will probably have to keep up with the disease prevention work for the rest of his life.

Andy Roddick marked an era as one of the greatest tennis players of his generation. Owner of one of the most powerful serves of all time, the American was No. 1 in the ATP rankings in 2003, the year he won the U.S. Open, his only Grand Slam title.

In addition to winning the U.S. Major trophy, Roddick was also runner-up at Wimbledon on three occasions (2004, 2005 and 2009). Over the course of his career, he won 32 singles titles.
