The Civil Police of Amazonas arrested, last Friday (10), two suspects for transmitting HIV during sexual abuse to children and adolescents in Manaus. The case happened in 2022 and had been under investigation for the past two years.

According to the Civil Police, the case came to light after a cell phone technician had access to the messages between the suspects and made an anonymous complaint. In the conversation, the two men, who are 21 and 31 years old, talk about the abuse and transmission of the virus.

The dialogue between the suspects also contained the sharing of child pornography. Thus, both will answer for the crimes of rape of a vulnerable person and sexual exploitation in the form of child pornography.

“According to the content of these conversations, we were able to verify that they [arrested suspects] had a preference for male children. They even talked about approaches that could be made in public and private places,” said Joyce Coelho, delegate of the Civil Police of AM.

According to a survey by the Amazonas Civil Police, 40% of arrests in the capital are for sexual abuse.
