River Plate is another team to guarantee itself in the 2025 Club World Cup. The Argentine team beat Libertad 2-0, last Tuesday night (14), for the Libertadores, qualified for the round of 16 and sealed a place in the intercontinental competition via the Conmebol ranking.
With River Plate secured, the Club World Cup reaches 27 teams qualified for the tournament. There are still five spots left for the competition, two of which are for teams from South America.
One of the spots will go to the 2024 Libertadores champion, and the other via the Conmebol ranking. But, if Palmeiras, Flamengo or Fluminense (who are already qualified for the World Cup) win the Libertadores title, the two spots will be defined by the ranking.
The World Cup will be held in the United States between June 15 and July 13, 2025. The tournament will feature 32 teams, which will be divided into eight groups of four. The teams face each other within their respective groups in a single round, and the top two in each group advance to the round of 16. From the knockout stage onwards, the matches will be played in a single game until the final.
