The arrival of a new member of the family always causes major changes in everyone’s routine, from humans to pets. Otis, a 10-month-old cat, was used to being the center of attention, as an “only child”, until the baby, Tavini, now 5 months old, arrived.
For Lahni Amosa, 24, one of the changes was that he went viral on social media. On May 6, the young woman shared a video of her husband, Komiti Tuilagi, 25, hugging their son Tavini. However, the cat also wanted to get into the hugs and snuggled up to the owner’s chest, caressing his neck and face incessantly, demanding attention. Watch the video below.
The family, from Sydney, Australia, got Otis in June last year, when Lahni received the feline as a gift from her husband. She described it as “the moment our lives changed forever.”
“Otis always has to be the center of attention, when he sees something he wants, he gets it and he’s extremely caring,” she told Newsweek.
“As you can see from Komiti and Tavini’s reaction, this behavior of Otis happens all the time, and it’s not uncommon for him to be caught on camera. My phone is 50 percent baby photos and 50 percent Otis photos,” she continued.
Lahni adds that Otis “never had a problem inserting himself into any situation where he wanted some attention.” She confesses, they were “a little nervous to see how he would adapt to having a younger brother and having to share our attention.”
The video has amassed over 4.5 million views and nearly 900,000 likes. “When you’re no longer the baby in the family,” the caption reads. “Otis doesn’t like to share.”
In the comments, users had fun with the feline and shared their own experiences. “My parents’ only child kitten never forgave me for being born,” one person commented. “I love how cats are basically four-legged children.” A third wrote: “My cat threw up the first day I brought my son home from the hospital.”
Otis’ guardians were amused by the public’s reaction on TikTok and stated that “it was no surprise as I think every parent has been through something similar at least once.”
“Cats have a lot of personality and are really members of the family. We have so many other funny moments that we’re excited to share, this is just the beginning of Otis’ TikTok career.”
