Coach Tiago Nunes, who was recently fired from Botafogo and is now in charge of Universidad Católica, in Chile, made a controversial statement involving coach Pep Guardiola, Manchester City.

Nunes criticised the “calm” found by coaches working in European football, and said he would like to see Guardiola play in South America, pointing out some difficulties the Spanish coach would have to face in competitions played here.

“I like to see the tournaments that are closer to me, where I can identify with the players and coaches, because I would love to see Guardiola playing in the Libertadores, against Bolívar in La Paz, or against Binacional in Peru, at 4,000 meters above sea level, Rosario Central, or against Boca Juniors. at the Bombonera. For me, it would be incredible, it would be other sensations. I see the guys there (in Europe) very calm, everything works. But there are other ingredients of this football that you can’t control. I would love to see this kind of competition, but of course it will never happen,” Tiago Nunes said in an interview with ESPN Chile.

The Brazilian coach continued with his analysis of football in the Old Continent, and made a point of criticizing in particular some aspects found in England.

“It’s not that it’s fake, but it’s a fairytale world, where everything works, everything is beautiful. But the English tournament, which is incredible, has no English playing, only foreigners. You see the England team and it’s terrible,” the Universidad Católica coach concluded.
