An alligator and an anaconda were seen fighting in a river in the Encontro das Águas State Park, in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso. The case took place in early May and was recorded by tour guide Branco Arruda.
The professional says that the animals were fighting for more than two hours.
“When we found them [the animals] fighting, it was around 3:20 p.m. I left at 5:30 p.m. and they were still fighting. I couldn’t see the outcome of the fight,” Branco told g1.
According to the guide, who works every day in the Pantanal, the place is a “little box of surprises”.
“I caught a scene like that a while back. We think we’ve seen it all, but later on, we might see something different. It’s always waiting for nature to show it,” he told g1.

Henrique Abrahão Charles, a biologist specializing in snakes, said that alligators are predators of anacondas and that the reverse also occurs when alligators are still young. He added that such a scene is not rare.
“They [alligators] stay in their territory, and anything that comes in, they can attack. If there is no prey in the territory, they will look for another one and may wait up to days for some prey to appear,” Charles explained to g1. According to Henrique, the fight between the alligator and the anaconda can last for hours, as both are very resistant animals.
