A 22-year-old man died in Goianésia (GO), after falling while trying to climb a screen on a soccer field to catch a ball.
Luciano Damasceno da Silva Filho fell from a height of approximately 5 meters. According to his father, he was hospitalized for 13 days in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), but did not resist.
“Every Monday he would go to this field to try to get him a football. He didn’t play ball on the spot, but he picked up the balls that fell on the roof of the locker room,” said Luciano Damasceno, the young man’s father.
The accident happened on May 20, at the Pedro Volner Sports Module. At the time of the accident, Luciano Filho was rescued and taken to an Emergency Care Unit (UPA) in the city, but was soon referred to the Governador Otávio Lage de Siqueira State Emergency Hospital (Hugol), in Goiânia, because it was a serious case. He died in the early hours of Sunday (2).
The father registered the case at the Central de Flagrante of the Civil Police of Goiânia, which will carry out the investigation.
“It was a lack of security. There were security guards on site and they allowed my son to climb on the screen. I would rather have picked up my son at the police station, if what he did was wrong, than at the UPA knowing he was going to die,” says the father.
According to the Civil Police, the corpse referral guide indicates that Luciano died as a result of a “mixed shock,” with “brainstem injury and nosocomial infections.”
The
City of Goianésia, through the Department of Sports, Youth and Leisure, deeply regrets the sad accident that occurred at the Pedro Volner Sports Module on May 20. A young man, who was a person with a disability, climbed without authorization from the janitor and the sports coach, on the protective screen and, unfortunately, fell, dying this weekend.
Our thoughts are with the young man’s family and friends at this difficult time. The Municipality of Goianésia reinforces that the authorizations for the use of the space by the community must be obtained exclusively through the Department of Sports, Youth and Leisure. In addition, community access to the site is allowed only for activities within the scheduled hours, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Those responsible for the Sports Module provided all the necessary assistance to the family members. We reinforce the importance of following safety regulations to avoid tragedies like this in the future.”
