Lanzante may not be a household name to many car enthusiasts, but the British have great experience in supercar maintenance and a rich track record. However, his main recent creation was a Porsche 911 with a Formula 1 engine, which gained a new run of three cars.

The models are Porsches 911 of the 930 generation. The models have been completely rebuilt and have carbon fiber in the bumpers, hood, doors, roof and wherever else possible, all with weight reduction in mind.

Electric mirrors have said goodbye to the car, which also has lighter Recaro seats than normal, six-point belts, and an air conditioning system that is also lighter than usual. All this search for weight reduction results in 430 kg less than the “base” cars.

Named Tag Championship, the models are a tribute to McLaren’s three world titles in the 1980s. In 1984 and 1985 as constructors and drivers and 1986 only the drivers’ championship. For all three seasons, McLaren used Porsche engines, which in 1986 were renamed TAG (Techniques d’Avant Garde).

At the time, these engines were developed using a Porsche 911 Turbo (930) as a test mule

The models will be equipped with 1.5 V6 bi-turbo engines, exactly the same units used by Formula 1 cars. The 11 units of the engine that belonged to McLaren were bought by Lanzante, which also obtained the authorization to reproduce the test car, which is owned by the British team.

The engines have been reworked and improved by Cosworth, precisely to stop being racing units and enable simpler use on the streets. Pistons, valves and camshafts have been improved. The turbines are made of titanium, precisely to be lighter. The exhaust system has also been reworked, as well as the airbox and a new monitoring center.

Now, the model delivers 625 hp of power and spins at more than 10 thousand revolutions. The transmission is a six-speed manual and comes from a 911 of the 993 generation.

Until then, the only unit of the “911 TAG Turbo” was owned by former Formula 1 driver Stefan Johansson. At the time, the car cost 1.45 million dollars, the equivalent of 7.5 million reais at current prices.

Who is Lanzante?

Born in the 70’s as a racing team focused on the use and maintenance of classic cars, Lanzante started competing in championships with “contemporary” cars in the 90’s using Porsches. In 1996, they were responsible for organizing a team to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans that year with McLaren, where they ended up winning the race.

In recent years, Lanzante has specialized in carrying out the maintenance of McLaren models, as well as converting units focused on exclusive use at racetracks such as the P1 or Senna GTR in street-legal versions, as well as the world’s only McLaren P1 convertible .
