The Federal Police (PF) discovered the existence of a new jewel that would have been sent to the United States at the request of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). According to the investigation, emissaries of the former head of the Executive tried to negotiate the piece in U.S. territory, but were unsuccessful. The information was published by CNN on Monday (10).
The discovery of the PF took place a few weeks ago, after investigations in the United States. A deponent connected to one of the jewelry stores said that the jewelry is studded with precious stones and has high value. The whereabouts of the piece are still unknown. The suspicion is that Bolsonaro also received the object as a gift from a Middle Eastern country when he was president.
Also according to the CNN publication, Bolsonaro’s former aide-de-camp, Colonel Mauro Cid, should be heard by the PF in the coming days. The idea is to get more information about the orgyem, the size and fate of the object. The investigation points out that the new jewel was not repurchased by Bolsonaro’s allies after the TCU ordered the return of the items.
The Portal iG asked for a position request for Bolsonaro’s defense and is awaiting a response.
Final stretch of the inquiry
The Federal Police is investigating whether Jair Bolsonaro misappropriated millionaire jewels given by Saudi Arabia to the Brazilian government. According to the director-general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, the conclusion of the investigation is scheduled for the end of June.
Recently, the PF obtained access to exclusive images and conducted interviews that corroborate information about the illegal sale and repurchase of the jewels that made up the well-known “white gold kit.”
The “white gold kit,” consisting of a ring, pen, cufflinks and an Islamic rosary (“masbaha”), all adorned with diamonds, was received by Bolsonaro during his official visit to Saudi Arabia in October 2019. The set also included a Rolex watch, which was sold separately at a store in Pennsylvania. The total value of the set was estimated at at least R$ 500 thousand.
