The siege on Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is tightening. Spain’s Attorney General’s Office has asked for five years in prison for the Italian, accused of tax crimes. These accusations date back to his first spell at the club, between 2013 and 2015, and deal with the alleged evasion of a total of € 1,062,079.00 (R$ 6,203,709.64, in current values). The information is from the Spanish newspaper “El Mundo”.

Last month, the Madrid Provincial Prosecutor’s Office had already requested a similar sentence – in this case, four years and nine months in prison – on the fraud charge. The alleged tax evasion is related to image rights.

El Mundo reports that it has had access to the document that describes Ancelotti’s obligation to declare income taxes in Spain. And this would not have happened because the part of the salaries that it pays in the form of image rights would have gone to the company Vapia Limited, based in the British Virgin Islands.

The Spanish Tax Authorities, therefore, understand that there was “concealment and lack of declaration” of the payments received. And Carlo Ancelotti himself, in a trial in 2021, admitted that he made a mistake. At the time, he claimed to have been poorly advised. Last month, however, he said there was a disagreement over the understanding of which country he was supposed to live in.
