Dutchman Max Verstappen is on his way to another Formula 1 title. Last Sunday (09), the Red Bull driver won the Canadian GP and extended his lead in the overall standings of the competition, with 194 points. The runner-up is Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who has 138 points. But Verstappen’s victory at the Canadian circuit was anything but easy. In addition to outpacing his opponents, the three-time world champion had to use his agility to dodge an unusual obstacle during the race.

At one point in the Grand Prix, Verstappen came across a groundhog on the track. The pilot then had to make a quick maneuver to avoid running over the animal. After the race, the Dutch driver spoke about the episode.

“I started to get to the last chicane and at first I thought it was debris. So I started to get closer, and I thought, ‘Oh my God, it’s an animal!’ So yes, I swerved right at the last moment. I don’t know what happened next,” Verstappen said in an interview alongside British driver George Russell, who said he saw the groundhog emerge unharmed from the situation.
