Formula 1 driver Jenson Button admitted to being a selfish person before his marriage and the arrival of children with former Playboy model Brittny Ward, his current wife.

The Formula 1 legend met Brittny while he was divorcing his first wife, Jessica Michibata. The couple got engaged two years later in 2018 and tied the knot in March 2022 before having two sons, Hendrix and Lenny.

However, they faced a lot of problems in the beginning. The pilot spoke about their relationship in a joint interview with The Times in 2023 and revealed that he was initially a “selfish human being”, before the birth of his children, who are currently aged four and three.

“I’ve been a changed man since they were born – sometimes we even fight over who will wake them up. This is a wonderful time in my life and I’m so grateful for what I have.”

“I raced in Formula 1 for 17 years. As a driver, everything is done for you and I took that for granted. I became a selfish human being, but the kids changed that.”

He added that it took him a while to “find his place” and “be a good father” when his first child was born. The former British driver spoke emotionally about his relationship with Brittny, revealing that he quickly knew she was “that woman”.

The mother of two agreed, stating, “We kind of had that chemistry right away. It was undeniable and so easy,” the former model said. She also pointed out that the situation of Button’s divorce meant it wasn’t the best time. “You can’t always choose the moment. I think he liked my dry, sarcastic sense of humor.”

Brittny explained that her husband was thrilled when he found out he was becoming a father. “Jenson was away when I found out and I wanted to tell him face-to-face, so I waited until he came home,” she said.

“It was very difficult not to say anything on the phone, but I thought it was more special to do it in person. I gave him a gift box with the test and he started crying. It was a very sweet moment. It was exactly what you would want the father of your future child to do.”

The former Williams and McLaren driver split from his first wife in 2015 after a year of marriage. His plans to marry Brittny were postponed in July 2019 following Hendrix’s birth.
