Find out who is ‘to blame’ for the reduced fields in the Copa America

Stadiums have been packed at Copa América(X/Chilean national team)

The small size of the pitches used in this year’s Copa America has caught the public’s attention. On the pitch, it’s five meters less in length and four meters less in width. This is in comparison with the main tournaments, from FIFA. But why does this happen?

According to a report by Uol, the will of the owners of the arenas, which are mostly used for American football games, prevailed. The NFL has different dimensions and CONMEBOL would not be able to carry out works of such magnitude.

It is worth remembering that the current edition of the Copa America is being played in the United States – it is only the second time this has happened. Outside the scope of the South American confederation, the entity does not have the same control over the stadiums.

Even so, the fields are at the minimum limit for the practice of soccer: 100 meters long by 64 meters wide.
