Ferrari SF90 was the brand’s first model to feature hybrid propulsionDisclosure

Customers of the Ferrari are known for enjoying a very stuffed wallet. The Italian automaker is starting a subscription service and extended warranty for the high-voltage batteries of its hybrid cars and in the future electric, which will guarantee owners a brand new battery every eight years.

At an annual cost of 7,000 euros (R$ 41,922), customers who opt for the plan will have more security in the use of the brand’s electrified models, which already has two hybrid models and is preparing its first 100% electric sports car for the coming years.

The plan will guarantee extra warranty for battery-related defects, as well as an extra battery when the car turns eight years old and 16 years old. Currently, Ferrari gives only a three-year warranty on the batteries of its hybrid models. Other automakers already provide eight-year coverage for the energy storage system of electrified cars.

According to the European press, the idea was suggested by Benedetto Vigna, CEO of Ferrari, who came to the position with the mission of making Ferrari a more profitable company, and finding new sources of income. The brand’s expectation is that the initiative will reassure the brand’s owners and encourage consumer adoption of Maranello’s electrified models.

The Italian brand also hopes that cars that have the service in their history will have easier resale, since owners will be sure that the battery of the hybrid system has been recently changed. It remains to be seen how the issue of payment will look in case of resale, for example.

Over eight years, the owner who opts for the service will have disbursed 56 thousand euros (335.5 thousand reais), or 112 thousand euros (R$ 671 thousand) for those who change two batteries, that is, 16 years of subscription.

Ferrari cars are known for not running much, so by use, the expectation is that the health of the batteries is still at a good level, however, leaving a car, even an electric one, too long without use, can be harmful to the batteries.
