Cristiano Ronaldo cried after missing the penalty in extra timeReproduction

Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the great characters in Portugal’s qualification for the quarterfinals of the European Championship. The star, who missed a penalty kick in extra time and was moved to tears during the match, explained the reason for the strong reaction.

“Sometimes it’s difficult to score penalties, I’ve scored more than 200 in my career, but sometimes it’s a mess to decide where to shoot, right side, left side, middle, but look, I’ve lost twice this year on penalties, today I won. Today was fair because Portugal deserved to win”, CR7 began.

“Whenever I see and think about the family, I saw my mother, I get emotional because… These are unique moments… I can’t put it into words…”, he continued.

Asked about the possibility of this being the last time he plays in a Euros, Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed, but said that the crying was not because of that.

“Without a doubt it’s my last Euros, of course it is, but I don’t get emotional about it, it’s about everything, about the enthusiasm I have for the game, the fans, my teammates. Quit football… what is missing for Cristiano to do more or win more? The most important thing is the enthusiasm I still have to be here,” he explained.

Regarding the quarterfinals, the star projected a complicated game against Kylian Mbappé’s France.

“We’re going to have a tough game against France, who are favourites to win this competition, with Germany and Spain, and we’re going to war. The team is doing well, this was a plus of energy and I will always give my best with this shirt. I’m going to do this my whole life, I’ve been doing this for 20 years. I missed the penalty but I wanted to be the first to score because I have to take responsibility. I’ve never been afraid to face things head-on and giving up is something you’ll never hear from my name,” he said.

Portugal and France face each other in the quarterfinals of the European Championship next Friday at the Volksparkstadion in Germany.
