Plane suffered from turbulenceReproduction

In the early hours of Monday (1st), an Air Europa plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Natal after facing strong turbulence. During the incident, a man was trapped between the roof and the luggage compartment of the aircraft, requiring the help of two passengers to return to the ground.

The flight, which departed from Madrid to Montevideo, was carrying 325 passengers. The turbulence caused several internal panels of the plane to detach, resulting in injuries to 30 people on board.

Among the injured, a passenger was sent to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Monsignor Walfredo Gurgel Hospital, with suspected brain trauma. Another victim suffered a fractured femur and had to undergo surgery.

In addition, four passengers were taken to local health facilities, while five were transferred to private hospitals.

Company provided help

Air Europa issued a statement stating that it is providing assistance to all passengers, with special attention to the injured. Those who were not injured were sent to Recife, from where they continued their journey to Montevideo.

“As it is not an Air Europa destination, the company’s team travels to Natal and Recife to provide better attention to our customers. All people who have required health care are being treated in Natal units,” the company explained.
