Psychology student Elene Deisadze found out she had a twin sister because of the TikTok. In 2022, when she was just 17 years old, the young woman was watching videos on the social network when she met a girl very similar to her, named Anna Panchulidze. At first, both became friends, but did not suspect that they could be from the same family.

The following year, when they turned 18, Elene and Anna found out that they were adopted, on the same date, shortly after their birthday. Because of the coincidence, the two teenagers decided to take a DNA test, which proved that they are twin sisters.

The case happened in Georgia, a European country that suffers from a strong child trafficking scheme. Usually, the crime took place in hospitals, which told mothers that their babies had died in childbirth. The children, however, were taken to other places and had their birth certificates falsified.

Journalist Tamuna Museridze, who is in charge of investigating the case, told the British newspaper Daily Mail that in Georgia, approximately 20,000 babies were stolen and sold to other families between 1950 and 2006.

The suspicion is that the scheme was carried out by a network that involved maternity hospitals, nurseries and adoption agencies.
