The President of Argentina, Javier Milei, decided to fire the country’s undersecretary of sports, Julio Garro, after the authority  demanded a position from Lionel Messi on the racist and transphobic chants chanted by his teammates.

Through a note published on social networks, Milei sent a message about the situation and explained Garro’s dismissal.

“No government can say what to comment, what to think or what to do to the Argentine National Team, World Champion and two-time American champion, or to any other citizen. Therefore, Julio Garro is no longer Undersecretary of Sports of the Nation,” he wrote.

Understand the situation According to Julio Garro, Argentina’s Undersecretary of Sports, Messi and Chiqui Tapia, president of the AFA (Argentine Football Federation), should apologize for the moment recorded on social networks.

The moment recorded by Enzo Fernández was after winning the Copa America, when the Argentines were on the bus, heading to the airport to return to Argentina. The players chanted: “They play for France, but they are from Angola, it’s good that they will run with transsexuals, the mother is Nigerian, the father Cambodian, but in the passport: French”.

Enzo plays for Chelsea, in England, and is teammates with four Frenchmen, who were revolted by the situation. The English have opened an internal investigation to be punishing the Argentine player, who retracted on his social networks after the negative repercussion of the moment.
