A rocket attack on a soccer field in the village of Majdal Shams, in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, left eleven dead and thirteen injured on Saturday (27), according to information from the Israeli government. The information is from Reuters.
According to authorities, the victims were between 10 and 20 years old. As reported by the Israeli army, the attack was the deadliest since the start of the war against Hamas, an ally of Hezbollah, in October.
According to Israeli government sources, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has cut short his visit to the United States and is returning to his country.
“We witnessed great destruction when we arrived at the football field, as well as items that were on fire. There were victims on the grass and the scene was horrible,” said Dr. Idan Avshalom of Magen David Adom, Israel’s National Organization of Emergency Pre-Hospital Medical and Blood Services.
A witness, who asked not to be named, said the rockets fell “on the football field, they are all children… Many bodies and remains are in the camp, we don’t know who they are.”
Hezbollah denies link
The attack came hours after an Israeli airstrike killed three Hezbollah militants in southern Lebanon.
In a statement, Hezbollah “categorically denied the accusations.” The group’s senior media representative, Mohammad Afif, confirmed the information to Reuters. The Lebanese government also condemned the attacks on civilians and called for an “end to hostilities on all fronts.”
However, Netanyahu vowed harsh retaliation against the group.
“Hezbollah will pay a high price, a price it has not yet paid,” the Israeli prime minister said.
According to an Israeli military spokesman, the Lebanese armed group lies about the case. “Our intelligence is clear. Hezbollah is responsible for the deaths of innocent children and adolescents,” said Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari.
“We are approaching a war”
Foreign
Minister Israel Katz attributed the attack to Hezbollah and said that it “crossed all red lines, and the response will be accordingly. We are approaching the moment of an all-out war against Hezbollah and Lebanon.”
