The first day of the Paris Olympic Games was marked by several frustrations for the Brazilian delegation. For the first time since the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Brazil finished its opening day in competitions without no medal won.

Men’s volleyball The Brazilian team debuted against Italy, started the match well, but saw the Italians open a 2-0 lead. Bernardinho’s team tried a comeback, winning the third set, but the European team closed the match in the fourth set.
Men’s gymnastics The Brazilian day in gymnastics started badly, with the early fall of Arthur Nory on the fixed bars. Diogo Soares secured his place in the final of the individual all-around.

Men’s surfing Gabriel Medina and João Chianca secured a place in the round of 16 by winning their heats. Filipe Toledo was surpassed by Peruvian Alonso Correa, finished in second place and will compete in a repechage.
Fencing Natalie Moellhousen, a 38-year-old fencer, was defeated by Canadian Ruien Xiao, and was eliminated from the tournament. The Brazilian felt sick during and after the fight. According to journalist Pedro Bassan, from TV Globo, he revealed that the athlete was diagnosed with a benign tumor in the coccyx and will need to undergo surgery.
