The United Nations called for “maximum restraint” on the Israeli-Lebanese border early on Sunday (28) local time, after tension in the region increased due to Saturday’s attack on the Golan Heights, which left at least 12 dead and 29 injured.

The territory where the attack took place is occupied by Israel. Israeli authorities accuse the Lebanese group Hezbollah of having carried out the bombing, which it “firmly denies” having fired the rockets.

The Israel Defense Forces have vowed retaliation. “Hezbollah will pay a high price, a kind of price it has not paid so far,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, according to a statement from his office. The Israeli representative canceled his visit to the United States to return to the region.
