An abandoned car with about R$ 1 million hidden in the trunk in the Renascença neighborhood, in São Luís, is investigated by the Civil Police of Maranhão (PC-MA). The vehicle is a red Renault Clio.
The police have already identified the name of the person who registered the vehicle. The identity was not disclosed, but it is known that it is a man and he will have to give a statement at the headquarters of the State Superintendence of Criminal Investigations (SEIC).
The car with the money was discovered by a doorman of a condominium located on Rua das Andirobas, in the Renascença neighborhood. He noticed the presence of money in the trunk of the parked vehicle and immediately notified the building’s manager. She, in turn, contacted the police, as reported by delegate Augusto Barros, superintendent of SEIC, according to g1.
After hearing the residents’ testimonies, the police reported that the car had been parked at the site for 15 days. The investigation continues and new witnesses will be consulted.
The money found was in bundles with R$ 50, R$ 100 and R$ 200 bills. In one of the packs, there was more than R$ 50 thousand. Some bills were loose and scattered inside the vehicle, while others were stored in suitcases and boxes, according to information provided by the Military Police of Maranhão (PM-MA).
Also, the police asked the banks to count the banknotes, due to the large amount found. The count began on Tuesday night (30), with no end in sight.
After being seized, the money was placed in three large bags and sent to the SEIC headquarters. The case will be investigated by the Organized Crime Combat Police Station.
