A 5-meter anaconda was caught by Military Police while digesting a newly hunted prey in a river in the district of Ribeirão dos Cocais, in Mato Grosso, last Wednesday (31).
In a video, it is possible to see the animal with a swollen belly while floating in the waters.

The Environmental Military Police reported that the animal was rescued, as it was in a risky place, close to a community. The snake has already been released in a safe area.
Digestion process
To g1, the biologist and snake specialist, Rita de Cássia Lamonica, said that the rescued anaconda is an adult female and appears to be digesting. The process can take about a month, which requires a lot of energy from the reptile and makes it more vulnerable to being captured. This is why anacondas “hide” at the bottom of rivers during digestion.
“She is vulnerable when fed because the gases in her diet make it difficult for her to move. These gases make it float and hinder its mobility, which is at the bottom of the water and facilitate its capture”, he explains.
