The mother of Emanuelly Vitória Rocha de Souza, 4, seeks justice for her daughter. The girl was sexually abused while she was hospitalized in the ICU of the State Hospital for Children and Adolescents (Hecad), in Goiânia.
The suspect is an occupational safety technician with a history of previous abuses. Emanuelly died three days after the abuse due to the consequences of acute appendicitis. The information is from TV Anhanguera.
Suspect was investigated for other crimes
The main suspect worked at the hospital and, according to the Civil Police of Goiás (PC-GO), used the position to find out information about the children’s families.
The objective was to find children whose parents could not stay in the hospital all the time so that he would have a chance to commit the crime.
He would enter the room posing as a caregiver and ask to be alone with the children. In the case of Emanuelly Vitória, the girl was with an aunt when the abuser and another woman asked her to leave, as they would bathe the child. They left after two hours.
“They came in at 8 am. They left at 10 am. It took a long time. At night, when they went to take her downstairs, the social worker called me and showed me how she was,” said the aunt.
For now, the Child and Adolescent Protection Police Station (DPCA) of Goiânia has identified three victims in the hospital. The arrested man and suspected of the crime is known to the police, as he is a sex offender and was previously investigated for child abuse.
As for the woman who the family witnessed entering the room with the abuser, the police did not say if she is under investigation. The suspect’s lawyer did not comment.
Hospitalization
The four-year-old girl died at Hecad on May 9 after three days of hospitalization for acute appendicitis. The probable cause, according to the police, was sepsis (general infection) due to acute appendicitis.
The girl’s first contact with Hecad was on May 3. Her mother took her to the emergency room with abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea. She was released, but on the 5th she returned due to a worsening and was admitted to the ICU.
Discovery of the girl’s abuse
The timeline indicates that she was abused on the morning of May 6. The genital lesions were discovered in the girl’s diaper change about 24 years after admission. The fact was marked in the medical record and the mother authorized tests to verify abuse (day 7).
Information from the Forensic Medical Institute (IML) indicated sexual abuse and the suspect for the crime was arrested on the 8th. After Emanuelly’s death, on the 9th, tests were carried out and the cadaveric report confirmed the presence of genital injuries.
