The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that three people died in the attacks carried out by Israel in the south of the country, in the early hours of Sunday (25).
The full extent of the damage following the crossfire between Israel and the Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed paramilitary group, has not yet been accounted for. According to the Lebanese health authority, two people died in the village of At Tiri, in Nabatiyeh, and another was killed in the city of Khiyam.
In a statement, the Amal movement, a Shiite group allied with Hezbollah, said one of its fighters was killed “while performing his national and jihad duty in defense of Lebanon and the south.”
Understand the attack
Sunday’s bombing came from Hezbollah bases in Lebanon, in retaliation for the assassination of its top commander last month in an Israeli strike.
In an attempt to thwart the major attack, Israel launched 100 fighter jets to bomb 40 of the group’s targets on Lebanese land. The government also declared an emergency.
Hezbollah said the operation was a “success” as it hit 11 Israeli military sites, fired more than 320 rockets and sent drones into northern Israel.
