Businessman Carlos Monteiro, owner of Malta Rock Bar, in the South Zone of São Paulo, was killed last Saturday (15) by the foreman Diego de Almeida Pereira, 34, after expelling him from the establishment for having harassed an employee.
The crime took place on the street in front of the bar. According to the police report of the case, witnesses reported that Pereira was disturbing other customers of the bar, saying ‘disconnected sentences’, apparently intoxicated and under the influence of drugs. Witnesses also reported that he was not ‘known’ in the establishment.
Pereira harassed an employee, who responded with a punch. When Carlos realized Pereira was armed, he asked him, “What are you going to do with that gun?” and kicked him out of the bar.
On the street, the man attacked the businessman and injured him with two knife blows to the back and neck.
According to the Secretariat of Public Security, after the attack, Pereira was immobilized and disarmed by other customers until the arrival of the Military Police. The weapon he used to kill Carlos was seized and the case registered as qualified homicide by ambush in the 16th Police District (DP), Vila Clementino.
Preventive detention
Pereira had his arrest in flagrante delicto converted to preventive detention by the Justice of São Paulo this Sunday (16). The investigation found that he was serving time at liberty after being convicted of a robbery, in addition to having previous stints for other crimes, such as robbery.
Carlos’ funeral and burial took place this Monday (17), at the Gethsemani Cemetery, in Morumbi.
