Father José Raimundo Soares Diniz, from the Senhora Sant’Ana Parish in Boquim-SE, was removed after a believer, with whom he allegedly had a relationship, extorted money from him.

The believer asked the priest for R$70,000 to avoid the dissemination of intimate photos and videos. The individual, with whom the priest would have had a relationship, initially demanded R$15,000 and then another R$55,000, totaling the amount mentioned. At one point, he even sent a photo of a gun to the priest, threatening to kill him if he did not carry out the required transfer.

The relationship took place inside the church, according to the bulletin. They would have met during a confession in the Parish of Senhora Sant’Ana de Boquim. Also, the blackmailer would be a servant of the Boquim City Hall.

Last Saturday (22), a man was arrested after receiving money from Father José Raimundo Diniz, who had alerted the police before the delivery. The agents mounted a surveillance operation and arrested him in the act. However, he was able to post bail and is awaiting trial in freedom.

The Diocese of Estancia removed the parish priest, as announced in a post on social media, and “took measures to safeguard the rights of all parties involved, including the priest.”

“The Diocese of Estancia reaffirms its commitment to the Word of God, as well as to the search for truth and justice,” adds the note from Bishop José Genivaldo Garcia.
