Argentine President Javier Milei will not attend the next summit of Mercosur leaders on July 7 and 8 in Asunción, the capital of Paraguay, because of an “overloaded schedule.”
The information was released on Monday (1st) by the spokesman of the Argentine presidency, Manuel Adorni, who added that the ultra-liberal leader will be replaced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Diana Mondino.
Adorni also denied that Milei’s withdrawal was linked to recent statements about President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who demanded an apology from the Argentine for being called “corrupt and communist.”
Milei not only denied regret, but also repeated the criticism and accused the Brazilian leader of having an “inflated ego”.
“In general, and also in this case, the president does not interrupt an activity because of something he said. The motivation is an overloaded schedule,” the spokesperson said.
