The aunt of Bruno Eustáquio, who was arrested on Monday (8) in Belo Horizonte (MG) after three years on the run for killing his own mother, celebrated his arrest on social networks.
In the text, Márcia Lanzane’s sister points out that her nephew committed the murder on the same day as her birthday – on December 21, 2020 – and will now be arrested close to his birthday, which is on July 22.
“Your time has come, disgrace, I said they were going to get you. The gift you gave me on my birthday I’m giving you back today, as an advance gift. Guys we managed to arrest Bruno in Belo Horizonte, it was worth every km driven. Justice for Márcia Lanzane”, says the text by Mariusa de Quadra.
The suspicion of the investigation is that the crime occurred out of interest in the family’s inheritance. Security camera footage shows Márcia and Bruno in a physical fight at the family home in Guarujá, on the coast of São Paulo.
In the videos, it is possible to see that the son hangs his own mother and then starts punching her. When Marcia stops reacting, Bruno leaves her in the room and goes to watch television.
Bruno only called the police the next day. He tells the agents that he found his mother dead.
Mariusa and Minervina, another sister of hers and Márcia, went to Belo Horizonte “with their faces and courage” when they saw, via TikTok images of Bruno’s girlfriend, that he was in the capital of Minas Gerais.
In Belo Horizonte, the pair of sisters discovered that Bruno introduced himself as Felipe. After much research, they found out where he lived with his partner. With a copy of the nephew’s arrest warrant, Minervina and Mariusa called the police to arrest him.
“They (police) told us that they were going to be on the doorbell. We stayed on the street below and they stayed on the top. We saw [Bruno] and started honking at the police, who approached him,” Minervina told G1.
Minervina says that Bruno tried to flee when he saw them getting out of the car, but was detained by the police.
“We did what we thought was right. He has to stay in jail because we can’t bring her back, unfortunately. It was worth it and we would do it all over again,” say the victim’s sisters, who want their nephew to have the maximum sentence of conviction.
Popular jury
The Court of Justice of the State of São Paulo (TJ-SP) says that Bruno cannot await the trial in freedom and, therefore, must be taken to the jury court.
“This is an extremely serious crime and the defendant does not demonstrate that he intends to cooperate in the application of the criminal law. Therefore, the decision that decreed the preventive detention of the accused is maintained,” said Judge Denise Gomes Bezerra Mota, of the 1st Criminal Court of Guarujá.
At the time of the crime, Bruno’s lawyer, Anderson Real Soares, claimed that the autopsy report presents contradictions and incomplete information, and that there is no evidence that the motivation for the crime would be inheritance.
The lawyer says that there was a curtailment of defense, that is, when the evidence found in the process is not sufficient for the trial.
“Evidence produced unilaterally by the criminal prosecution bodies is not useful for the criminal process and cannot be the basis for convictions, much less assumptions and theories put forward by the prosecution,” Anderson said.
The TJ-SP, however, rejected the defense’s allegation and maintained the determination that Bruno should be taken to the jury.
Another allegation of the defense is that the accused should not be tried for femicide, as there are no elements that the motivation was related to the victim being a woman.
