Israel dos Santos Assis, known as Pinguim, 22 years old, had been arrested for stealing bones from a cemetery in Bahia and gave statements to the police about the consumption of human flesh. In interrogation, the young man said that he fried a piece of human leg in a frying pan and then seasoned it with lemon and vinegar.
The man went viral this week after repercussion of a video of him confessing to having “seasoned” beans with human flesh after violating graves in cemeteries.
“I treated [human flesh], threw it in the beans… But you can’t eat, no. Just chew it like that and then throw it away. I didn’t swallow it, no. He just chews and throws it away, just to taste it,” he reported in the images. “It’s sweet, but you can’t swallow it, no,” she continued. Watch the video here.
He was released this Friday (2) after a court decision and will respond in freedom for grave violation. The condition for release, however, is that he appears weekly at the Psychosocial Care Center (Caps).
“Israel suffers from mental problems. He has visible disorders, uses antidepressant medications and is being monitored by Caps. However, he is currently not unimputable. In the future, once the criminal action has been initiated, he will certainly be subjected to a mental health check to find out whether or not he had an understanding of what he was doing,” explained lawyer Luan Santos, who assisted the man at the time of arrest, to Metrópoles.
Order
Also, in the interrogation that the newspaper had access to, Pinguim said he went to the cemetery due to a “commission”, so he stole the remains.
To the police, he mentioned three people who would have hired his services to remove the bones from the graves. The amount he would have received was R$ 180, according to him. According to the young man, the pieces would be used in religious rituals.
Israel, however, ended up being arrested in the act while waiting for the buyer to deliver the bones.
The promised amount was delivered to him before the service, he reported. Israel told the police that he used the money to buy shoes, get a haircut and eat snacks. The case is still under investigation at the 21st Territorial Precinct of the Civil Police of Bahia.
