Two days after won the gold medal, Duda and Ana Patrícia will be Brazil’s flag bearers at the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The ceremony will be held this Sunday night (10) at the Stade de France, north of the French capital.

But for this to be possible, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) accepted a request from the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB). The BOC had to request that two athletes carry the national symbol, since traditionally, flag bearers are represented by a man and a woman

For Paulo Wanderley, president of the BOC, the choice of the double Olympic champion due to the fact that both represent “with excellence the main Olympic values”.

“Duda and Ana Patrícia represented the main Olympic values with excellence and filled us with pride. They broke a gold medal drought for Brazil in beach volleyball that had lasted for 28 years, since the historic title of Jackie Silva and Sandra Pires in Atlanta 1996. The Brazilian flag is in excellent hands,” said Wanderley.

“Beach volleyball is a very important sport for Brazilian sport, which has frequently been on podiums at World Championships and Olympic Games for at least three decades. This choice for Duda and Ana Patrícia is due to their deservedness, and also a tribute to so many athletes from the past who built this success story”, added Rogério Sampaio, COB general director and head of the Brazilian mission in Paris 2024.
