Boxer Imane Khelif was the target of a great controversy during the Paris Olympic Games. The Algerian was unjustly accused of being a transgender athlete, which led to a wave of demonstrations around the world. The case gained repercussions after Angela Carini, from Italy, abandoned a fight with Khelif in the middle of the Olympics, suggesting that it was “unfair” to duel against a man.
The controversy began when Imane Khelif failed a gender test held at last year’s World Boxing Championships. The test, however, was carried out by the International Boxing Association (IBA), which is no longer regulated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
It is worth mentioning that Khelif was approved in all the medical criteria adopted by the IOC and, therefore, considered fit to compete in the Paris Olympic Games.
The Algerian boxer returned to her country with the gold medal in the 66kg category, and drew attention by undergoing a change in her look, made by the beauty salon “Beauty Code”.
Through social networks, the salon published a video (watch below) in which Imane Khelif appears with a produced look. The athlete appears in makeup, with a neat hairstyle, wearing a flowered blouse and with the gold medal around her neck.
“To get her medal, she didn’t have time to waste in beauty salons or shopping. She never felt the need to conform to these standards in order to assert her existence (…). In the ring, she doesn’t need ornaments or high heels, but rather strategy and strength (…). Imane is beautiful,” wrote the salon in the publication in which it shows the athlete’s visual transformation.
