Flamengo has agreed to sign Argentine midfielder Carlos Alcaraz, from Southampton, England.
According to journalist Nicolò Schira, the midfielder arrives at Rubro-Negro for € 17 million (R$ 105 million approximately), with a contract valid until 2028.
Who is Alcaraz?
Trained in Racing’s youth categories, Alcaraz has always been treated as a jewel. In 2020, the midfielder rose to the professional team, playing for three seasons in the first team.
During this period, Alcaraz participated in the conquest of the Argentine Champions Trophy and stood out by registering 12 goals and five assists in 83 matches. Attracting the attention of clubs in Europe, he was sold to Southampton for 13.6 million euros in January 2023.
In England, Alcaraz arrived in the middle of the 2022/23 season and even performed well, but could not prevent Southampton’s drop to the 2nd division.
In the following semester, the Argentine contributed to the team’s return to the Premier League. In January, however, Alcaraz was loaned to Juventus. In all, he scored eight times and served his Southampton teammates five times in 47 matches.
In six months of Italian football, Alcaraz did not have much time to adapt and did not stand out. The Argentine midfielder made only 12 appearances for the Old Lady, most of which he came off the bench. Despite this, he was in the Coppa Italia winning squad.
Returned to Southampton, Alcaraz is trying to show his worth in the team that returned to the Premier League. Despite this, the English club does not reject the possibility of profiting from the 21-year-old.
