Who We Are
The Internet Group do Brasil Ltda., known by its acronym iG, founded by the groups GP Investimentos (Telemar) and Opportunity (Brasil Telecom), with founding partners Nizan Guanaes, Jorge Paulo Lemann, Aleksandar Mandic and Matinas Suzuki Jr. with the prominent participation of Demi Getschko and Carla Sá, it was founded as a Brazilian Internet access provider and a Content Portal. The operation went live on January 9, 2000 with the iG brand and the first public preliminary version of the portal with free dial-up service, marked by a strong advertising campaign that transformed one into a symbol of the company—and an instant celebrity.
The shock to the market was immediate. Despite not being the first free Brazilian provider, iG quickly achieved great popularity at a time when broadband was uncommon and banks were just beginning to offer free connection plans to their customers. The portal was also well positioned: it brought together a growing number of competent and creative websites, led by Último Segundo (whose proposal to write exclusively for the internet was considered bold at the time, as all the major competing online news outlets were linked to traditional outlets), forming a prominent group when the portal policy was still seeking to mature in Brazil.
The Portal was acquired in 2004 by the BrasilTelecom group and merged with the iBest and BrTurbo portals, which were already owned by the telephone company. In 2010, iG was acquired by Oi after the sale of Brasil Telecom. On April 18, 2012, the Portuguese company Ongoing announced the purchase of the fifth most accessed portal in Brazil.
In addition to being a provider, iG is also known for its portal, which houses important websites such as the news program Último Segundo. It also houses iG Gente, iG Esportes, iG TV, iG Economia and Delas. A Google partner, it uses the search, email and keyword advertising system in a personalized and regionalized way.

iG has a formal commitment to guaranteeing its journalists the right environment to guarantee the criteria for producing and distributing content aimed solely at the public interest in an impartial and independent manner. All of its journalists are guaranteed that they will not receive any interference from Interests unrelated to the search for truth and impartiality in the construction of their content, with the guarantee that no other interest will be considered, notably, of interest to other companies in the Group, of their owners, authorities, advertisers, sources or professionals, candidates and parties will never be.
Corrections policy
iG always formalizes that journalists are instructed that errors must be corrected as soon as they are detected and that it will transparently deal with any mistakes that lead to corrections in their reports when an error occurs that impacts the certification of information.
