Brazilian physician Charles Sá, sole survivor of a health accident On Tuesday, he was arrested by local authorities on charges of manslaughter and reckless driving. The information was disclosed by Namibian police spokeswoman Kauna Shikwambi to local newspaper The Namibian.

The accident left nine dead, including the doctor from Rio Grande do Sul, Natale Gotijo, wife of Charles Sá.

According to the newspaper, Sá is expected to appear in court on the 27th of this month. Today, he is under police guard at a hospital in Otjiwarongo.

to community policing inspector Maureen Mbeha, the couple tried to overtake a car and collided with another vehicle, which was coming in the opposite lane. All the people who were in the other car died.

According to Charles’ brother, dentist Ricardo de Sá, the couple was on a trip to Africa and planned to visit several countries on the continent. “They had just arrived. They were about three days into the trip,” the brother said.

On social media, Charles had posted a text showing anticipation for the trip. This was the last post on Instagram.

“We’re going to cross Africa in a 4×4 SUV. Just the two of us. No guide. We’ll pass through several parks and reserves, contemplating the primitive nature, its dynamics and its rules (…) Very happy to be able to make this old dream come true,” he wrote.

According to information from the newspaper O Globo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it has been following the case since it was notified.

“The Embassy ordered the immediate transfer of the staff from the post to the city of Otjiwarongo, near where the accident occurred. The Embassy remains in permanent contact with the local authorities and with the families of the Brazilians, in order to provide the necessary consular assistance in a more efficient manner,” they said in a statement.
