‘Egg’ rain in GuaíbaReproduction

On Sunday (23), Rio Grande do Sul was hit by strong storms which brought hail the size of eggs, as reported by local residents. These rains were accompanied by an intense cold front that will extend throughout the week, contributing to the increase in the level of the Guaíba.

According to the update from the National Water and Basic Sanitation Agency (ANA), at 6 a.m., the lake was on alert, with a height of 3.41 meters, approximately 20 centimeters below the flood mark.

According to the city of Guaíba, a city in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre and MetSul Meteorology, the flood occurred due to the incidence of winds in the South and Southeast directions, which dams the water of the lake. The phenomenon is expected to continue at least until Tuesday (25).

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a “danger” alert due to the significant drop in temperature in an area of Rio Grande do Sul that includes the metropolitan region of the capital Porto Alegre on Monday. According to the agency, between late Sunday afternoon and 8 a.m. on Tuesday, much of the state could record temperature decreases of more than 5°C.
