The children of the diplomats from Gabon, Burkina Faso and Canada, as well as the grandson of journalist Ricardo Noblat, are traumatized after approached in a truculent manner by military police in the neighborhood of Ipanema, in Rio de Janeiro. According to a report prepared by the Commission for the Defense of Human Rights and Citizenship (CDDHC) of Alerj, which met with the young people, they are afraid to meet the Military Police again.
“Young people are deeply traumatized by the episode that can unfold into significant ruptures in their subjectivities. They are avoiding going out on the streets, fearing that they will come across Military Police vehicles and the episode will be repeated, especially because they have been threatened with going through an even more violent episode,” says an excerpt from the document signed by state deputy Dani Monteiro (PSOL), president of the CDDHC.
The report states that the police even asked young people aged 13 to 14 to lift their private parts during the approach. In addition, they also suffered threats.
“According to the young people, the agents with their guns drawn, placing them close to the faces of the teenagers, asking all the time, ‘where’, ‘where’? The boys, not understanding what was happening, obviously did not answer the question. This would have further angered the police, who would have made the boys lift their private parts, in a vexatious search in search of narcotics. After the searches were frustrated, police officers still told the young people that next time it would be worse, according to their reports,” says another excerpt.
After the meeting with the young people, state deputy Dani Monteiro, representing the CDDHC, informed that she will send a letter to the PM to question whether the agents involved in the episode will respond by administrative process. The commission also wants to know if the government of Rio de Janeiro is guaranteeing the safety of young people.
