Serra da Saudade: population of Brazil’s smallest city decreases even more in 2024

The Civil Registry and Notes Office of Serra da Saudade, the least populous city in Brazil, recorded a decrease in the number of inhabitants in 2024.

The city, which in February had 833 inhabitants, had 831 in May – there were two deaths and one birth.

In 2023, the IBGE –  Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics instituted, through the census, Serra da Saudade as the smallest city in the country.

The citadel has had this post for 11 years. Before, who occupied it was Borá, in São Paulo. In the 2022 census, Borá had 907 inhabitants – the only city in the state with less than 1 thousand inhabitants.

Serra da Saudade is located in the central west of Minas Gerais, 250 km from Belo Horizonte. Check out some curiosities about the city
