The Goodwood Festival of Speed is a motorsport event that takes place annually in England, bringing together classic, modern, supercar and even Formula 1 cars for high-speed laps. And on the first day of the event, this Thursday (11), the Lotus Evija X, a hypercar built especially to break records on the Nürburgring, Germany, had an accident right at the start.

The super sports car, when trying to leave, made an excessive burnout, lost control and crashed head-on, standing sideways on the track. Fortunately, the pilot was unharmed. What is surprising is that the estimated price of the vehicle is US$ 2.3 million, which in a direct conversion would be around R$ 12.5 million.

The narrators of the event suggest that the accident may have been caused by a problem in the software that controls the car’s four individual engines, which together generate 2,039 hp of power and 174.7 kgfm of torque. However, official confirmation from Lotus is still awaited.

As the Evija X is a unique project, the recovery of the car will depend on the availability of parts, but the possibility of the British automaker having to assemble a new car is great.

In April, the Lotus Evija X had stood out by setting a record at the Nürburgring, completing a lap in 6 minutes and 24 seconds, being the fastest production car on the track, behind only the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo and Volkswagen ID.R. The hypercar has four electric motors, one for each wheel.

Currently, the Nürburgring record belongs to the 919 Hybrid Evo, with a time of 5 minutes and 19 seconds, followed by the VW ID.R, with 6 minutes and 5 seconds. Among the production cars, the record is held by the Mercedes-AMG One, which completed the lap in 6 minutes and 35 seconds.
